Kites fledged in 2021 (T0 - T8)

 Kite No: T0

Wing Tag Left/Right: Pink/Red

Kite Name: N/A

Fledged: 2021: South Snod’s Edge,  Northumberland .

Male/Female: Unknown

Parents: Father – Untagged / Mother - Untagged 

Brief Summary: Wing tag T0 can only be identified from a visual sighting. WT T0 is one of a brood of three from a nest built in a Scots Pine tree. Its sibling are WT T1 and WT T2. There was a glove and a sock in the nest.

Latest Sighting: Wing tag T0 has not been individually identified since fledging but would have been one of the family party of five seen in the area in August.
 

Kite No: T1

Wing Tag Left/Right:Pink/Red

Kite Name: N/A

Fledged: 2021: South Snod’s Edge, Northumberland

Parents: Father – Untagged / Mother - Untagged

Brief Summary: Wing tag T1 can only be identified from a visual sighting. WT T1 is one of a brood of three from a nest built in a Scot’s Pine tree. Its siblings are WT T0 and WT T2. There was a glove and a sock in the nest.

Latest Sighting: Wing tag T1 has not been individually identified since fledging but would have been one of the family party of five seen in the area in August.


Kite No: T2

Wing Tag Left/Right:Pink/Red

Kite Name: N/A

Fledged: 2021: South Snod’s Edge, Northumberland

Male/Female: Unknown

Parents: Father – Untagged / Mother - Untagged.

Brief Summary: Wing tag T2 can only be identified from a visual sighting. WT T2 is one of a brood of three from a nest built in a Scots Pine. Its siblings are WT T0 and WT T1. There was a glove and a sock in the nest.

Early August - 2021: Wing tag T2 could have been one of the family party of five seen in the area at this time

09/01/22: Wing tag T2 was identified at Waskerley Pallets, just south of Healeyfield, between Smiddy Shaw Reservoir and Castleside.

Latest Sighting: 23/01/22 - Wing tag T2 was identified at a pre roost gathering near Hamsterley Mill and dropped into roost with 60 other birds.  


Kite No: T3

Wing Tag Left/Right: Pink/Red

Kite Name: N/A

Fledged: 2021: near Chopwell, Derwent Valley, Gateshead 

Male/Female: Unknown

Parents: Father – Untagged / Mother - Untagged.

Brief Summary: Wing tag T3 can only be identified from a visual sighting. WT T3 is one of a brood of three from a nest built in a Scots Pine tree. Its siblings are WT T4 and WT T5. There was the remains of a young jackdaw in the nest and a dirty white cloth.

09/01/22- Wing tag T3 was sighted at a pre roost gathering near Hamsterley Mill in the Pontburn Valley,. A total of 74 kites roosted  in the area that evening.

16/01/22 - Wing tag T3 was identified at a pre roost gathering near Hamsterley Mill in the Pontburn Valley, Sixty nine kites roosted in the area that evening.

23/01/22 - Wing tag T3 was identified  at a pre roost gathering near Hamsterley Mill in the Pontburn Valley. Sixty one kites roosted in the area that evening.

27/05/22 - Wing tag T3 was identified from a photograph taken from the Pontburn Viaduct. T3 was in a group of five kites that lifted from trees on the Hamsterley Hall estate when disturbed by the noise of a lawnmower starting up.  T3 had significant feather damage almost certainly caused by being shot at.

29/05/22 - Wing tag  T3 was again identified from a photograph. This time from a field above Ebchester in the Derwent Valley. T3 was with circa 6 other kites and the photograph confirmed  the damage the bird has suffered to its feathering from being shot at.

 17/02/23 - Wing tag T3 was identified at pre roost on the Hamsterley Hall Estate. The bird was in a group of kites (which included X4) that eventually drifted down to the valley whilst circa 20 kites roosted further up the Pontburn Valley, near Southfield Farm. T3 showed significant wing damage consistent with being shot at.

14/01/24 - Wing tag T3 was identified from a photograph, taken at 15.05hrs,near Muggleswick, overlooking the south side of the Derwent Gorge. T3 was flying with another untagged kite and appeared to be in good condition.

Latest sighting: 07/04/24 - 15.00hrs - T3 was seen flying over a garden in Moorside, near Consett, heading west towards the Derwent Gorge/Muggleswick.


Kite No: T4

Wing Tag Left /Right: Pink/Red

Kite Name: N/A

Fledged: 2021: near Chopwell, Derwent Valley, Gateshead

Male/Female: Unknown

Parents: Father - Untagged/ Mother- Untagged.

Brief Summary: Wing tag T4 can only be identified from a visual sighting. WT T4 is one of a brood of three from a nest built in a Scots Pine tree. Its siblings are WT T3 and WT T5. There was the remains of a young jackdaw in the nest anda dirty white cloth.

Latest Sighting: There have been no sightings of wing tag T4 since fledging.


Kite No: T5

Wing Tag Left/Right:Pink/Red

Kite Name: N/A

Fledged: 2021: near Chopwell, Derwent Valley, Gateshead  

Male/Female: Unknown

Parents: Father – Untagged / Mother - Untagged.

Brief Summary: Wing tag T5 can only be identified from a visual sighting. WT T5 is one of a brood of three from a nest built in a Scots Pine tree. Its siblings are WT T3 and WT T4. There was the remains of a young jackdaw in the nest and a dirty white cloth.

Latest Sighting:  24/07/21 – Wing tag was photographed whilst perched in a tree in Milkwellburn Wood, three weeks after fledging.
 

Kite No: T6

Wing Tag Left/Right:Pink/Red

Kite Name: N/A

Fledged: 2021: Chopwell Wood, Gateshead

Male/Female: Unknown

Parents: Father - Untagged / Mother - Untagged.

Brief Summary: Wing tag T6 can only identified from a visual sighting. WT T6 is one of a brood of two  fledged from a nest built in a Sycamore tree. Its sibling is wing tag T7. A blue sponge washing up cloth, a dirty white linen cloth and some clear plastic decorated the nest.

Latest Sighting: There have been no sightings of wing tag T6 since fledging.


Kite No: T7

Wing Tag Left/Right:Pink/Red

Kite Name: N/A

Fledged: 2021: Chopwell Wood, Gateshead. 

Male/Female: Unknown

Parents: Father – WT H0 / Mother - Untagged.

Brief Summary: Wing tag T7 can only be identified from a visual sighting. WT T7 is one of a brood of two chicks (its sibling is WT T6) fledged from a nest built in a Sycamore tree. A blue sponge washing up cloth, a dirty white linen cloth and some clear plastic decorated the nest.

Latest Sighting: There have been no sightings of T7 since fledging.


Kite No: T8

Wing Tag Left/Right:Pink/Red

Kite Name: N/A

Fledged: 2021:  from a garden nest on the western side of Rowlands Gill 

Male/Female: Unknown

Parents: Father – Untagged / Mother - Untagged.

Brief Summary: Wing tag T8 can only be identified from a visual sighting. WT T8 was one of a brood of three chicks from a nest built in a Scots Pine. It’s two siblings were too small to wing tag and were ringed only. A blue sponge washing up cloth, a dirty white linen cloth and some clear plastic decorated the nest.

Latest Sighting: There have been no sightings of wing tag T8 since fledging
