Kites Fledged in 2012 (F2 to F6)

Kite No: F2

Wing Tag Left/Right: Pink / Red

Kite Name: No name given

Fledged: 2012 Causey Gill, Co Durham

Male/Female: Unknown

Parents: Father - WT84 Shiver  /  Mother - WTT2 Trunkle

Befriend a Kite School:

Brief Summary: When WTF2 was tagged, the nest was found in a Sycamore tree. WTF2's mother is a 2007 kite from the mid Scotland project, her wing tags are Red and Purple. WTF2 can only be identified by a visual sighting. There have been no sightings since.

Sadly WTF2's father Shiver, was found washed up on the beach at Redcar in July 2012.

Latest Sighting: June 2012 - Causey Gill, Co Durham - at tagging.


Kite No: F3

Wing Tag Left/Right: Pink / Red

Kite Name: Fiona Firefly

Fledged: 2012 Derwent Park, Gateshead

Male/Female: Unknown

Parents: Father - WT15 Red Philip  /  Mother - WT43 Swift

Befriend a Kite School: St Patrick's RCVA Primary School Dipton

Brief Summary: When WTF3 was tagged, the nest, in a Sycamore tree, was found to contain a fingerless glove and a white sock as decoration. WTF3 can only be identified by a visual sighting. WTF3, being an only chick, was regularly noted being  well fed at the nest during July 2012. There have been no sightings since.

July 2012 - Paddock Hill, Derwent Park, Gateshead.

03/11/2012 - Id'd from photograph whilst perched at pre roost.
11/11/2012 - one of the first kites into the pre roost between Hollinside Manor and Paddock Hill. Perched with Black Isle juvenile Blue/ Red 8P. 

Latest Sighting: January 2013 - recorded in the main roost gathering at Paddock Hill, Derwent Country Park, Gateshead.


Kite No: F4

Wing Tag Left/Right: Pink / Red

Kite Name: No name given

Fledged: 2012 Gibside, Gateshead

Male/Female: Unknown

Parents: Father - WTC1 Angel  /  Mother - WT60 Welbeck Whistler

Befriend a Kite School:

Brief Summary: When WTF4 was tagged, the nest in a Scots pine tree, was found to contain a jumper as decoration. WTF4 can only be identified by a visual sighting. 

June 2012 - Gibside, Gateshead - at tagging.
21/12/2012 - Identified at the pre roost gathering, Paddock Hill.
25/ 12/2012 - noted at the pre roost gathering, Paddock Hill. 

Noted at the winter roost a total of five times in December 2012.

10/01/2013 - recorded at the main roost at Paddock Hill.

Early February 2013 -- recorded twice at the main roost at Paddock Hill. 

Latest Sighting: 28/03/2013 - perched in the Derwent Gorge, East of Muggleswick.


Kite No: F5

Wing Tag Left/Right: Pink / Red

Kite Name: No name given

Fledged: 2012 Rowlands Gill, Gateshead

Male/Female: Unknown

Parents: Father - WT53 Winlaton Blaze  /  Mother - Unknown

Befriend a Kite School:

Brief Summary: When WTF5 was tagged, the nest in a Sycamore tree, was found to contain a white cloth as decoration. WTF5 can only be identified by a visual sighting.  WTF5 was seen in July 2012 perched in a tree at Gibside, being 'buzzed' by WT76. 

Latest Sighting: April 2015 - F5 was identified from a photograph flying at Hagg Hill farm near Winlaton Mill.


Kite No: F6.

Wing Tag Left/Right: Pink / Red.

Kite Name: No name given.

Fledged: 2012 Derwentcote, Co Durham.

Male/Female: Unknown.

Parents: Father - WT 63 Polo  /  Mother - WT 89 Kitty.

Befriend a Kite School:

Brief Summary: When WTF6 was tagged, the nest was found in a dead Larch tree. WTF6 was found at the bottom of the nest tree before fledging, and was taken into re-hab for a few weeks, until fit enough to release. There had been two other chicks in the nest, one of which died, and the other fledged naturally and was untagged. WTF6 can only be identified by a visual sighting.  WTF6 was photographed the day after its re-release with another family of kites. There were no sightings of this juvenile for several weeks until it turned up at the roost site and been recorded several times in the October and November roosts.
12th November 2012 - Paddock Hill Roost, Gateshead. 

Latest Sighting: 4th February 2013 - Paddock Hill Roost, Derwent Country Park,Gateshead.
